First the good: The Fiskars 18 inch loppers are a stylish pair of loppers, ergonomically designed, and comfortable to use. This is a well-made pair of loppers that I think should give me many years of service. Getting replacement blades for this model is simply a matter of calling Fiskars and ordering the part. I’ve emailed Fiskars on several occasions with product questions and both times the response was fast and friendly. The loppers do cut cleanly, but comparing the experience to a knife slicing through soft butter is a bit of hyperbole. For every day trimming of unwanted saplings or dead growth from shrubs and trees in the yard these work well. The 18-inch length allows the user to reach targets much more easily and comfortably that a pair of hand clippers would allow. I like that the anvil part of the tool is curved to lock branches in place for clean cutting. The Not as good: Somehow I got the impression from reviews and web content that these loppers were capable of cutting up to 1 1/2″ diameter brances with minimal effort. This hasn’t been true in my experience especially with dead, fallen branches that I try to salvage for the fireplace. The Fiskars seem to do a better job and have a greater capacity when cutting live growth. Cutting old, dry wood has been more of a challenge. If I limit my cutting to dead branches under 3/4″ the function and performance of this tool is quite satisfactory. It took all the effort I could muster to make one inch cuts, and I had poor success when attempting cuts of wood with larger diameters. For regular trimming of live trees and shrubs, these loppers are wonderful and much more functional than a pair of hand clippers. I had hoped to use these to cut one inch diameter fallen branches to size for the fireplace, but these little loppers just haven’t been up to the task. For more demanding tasks I need a more heavy duty pair of loppers with longer handles to generate greater cutting power.

Seriously, dont think about it, just buy it. I’m 140lb noodle arm guy that was able to trim and twin two trees by myself with this. It slices through branches like a hot knife through butter!
